It just keeps getting better

Happy hump day!

My Wednesday started much earlier than I’m used to, since I usually don’t have class until 3pm. However, it was up at 6 getting all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to teach a French lesson at 7am! Despite the early wake-up, I am really grateful to have had that class because it made me feel way more prepared to teach my group class this evening.

I keep hearing that it will get easier the more I actually teach, and I feel like I am starting to feel a little more comfortable already. Teaching in itself forces me to be off-balance and to think quickly on my feet which might be just exactly what I need to keep pushing me out of my comfort zone. I tend to want to be completely in control and to know exactly what will happen in class, but the truth is all I can do is prepare and feel as comfortable as possible with the material beforehand, and just go with the flow in the moment! Maybe a lesson to try applying to real life….? Lol.

I got to ease into my class this evening with a nice coffee break and ride to work with a boy, so maybe that plays into it too… Guess I gotta make that a weekly habit!

I hope you’re staying warm and out of this horrible gust of cold we just got hit with in Boston!

Zooming past me

How is it already Wednesday night??
I feel like this week is just flying right past me. It might have to do with being on break last week, but man am I happy it’s not dragging.

I taught my first French class this evening and I think it went extremely well! Even though I was feeling a bit exhausted this afternoon after a lot of traveling between Harvard square and BU and Brighton this morning, I had just enough energy to get me through the end of the day. Work will continue to get busier over the next few weeks but I am thankful I’m not going to be as busy with school, so bring it on!

This morning I had my longest shift at work, and probably the most rewarding. I never believed I was the kind of person who could teach but I’m finding out just how fun and exhilarating it can be to work with students and to help them improve their language skills.

I always became quite close with teachers as I went through school since I really loved and respected the learning process, but I didn’t realize how cool it would be to be on the other side. So far, even though it’s not all easy, I’m loving it!

Though today was filled with a bit of running around between Back Bay, to school, to Cambridge and finally home, I’m really enjoying being busy and finding a purpose everyday. I even managed to get in a speedy weightlifting session at the gym between work and class!

The cherry on top was definitely that I only waited about 2 minutes for my bus to take me home tonight, even though my phone had died and I had no way of knowing if I was early, had just missed it, or was in for a 45-minute wait outside. Even though I was bummed my phone ran out of battery about 3 hours before I was heading home, I’m really glad it did. Stopping at the Co-Op in Cambridge, I talked to my checkout cashier about the kombucha they brew on site and got a smile out of him. Later when I was on the bus, I smiled and made faces at a cute little girl in her stroller with her mom nearby, and she waved and smiled back. I know I’m usually totally caught up in my phone, especially on public transportation, but I just appreciated sitting in the bus, taking in all the different people around me, and wishing that we could all just put down our phones sometimes and connect with each other. I’m thankful for the reminder to not let myself get bogged down too much by all my high-tech gadgets, and to experience life as it is happening right this second.

A new week and new finds!

Happy Monday all!

Today totally reminded me why we need to have crappy days (like yesterday) sometimes… So that the next day can be awesome! I woke up early to get in a sweaty yoga class with my man Dave Farmar, and I was SO glad that I did. There’s nothing like completely filling my lungs and sweating in the morning to know my day is going to be fabulous.

I talked with several friends on the way to school and managed to run into another one while I waited for my class to start. Chatting with friends is such a pick-me-up, even if it’s just texting each other silly things. I love the interaction 🙂

I had a really great first voice lesson back from the holiday break, and I feel so good about my progress and how I’m feeling when I sing right now. Yoga is absolutely helping me get more in touch with my breath and my body, so there is no way I’m giving up on my 40 days anytime soon!

I had a sweet lunch at my all-time favorite Cambridge eatery, Life Alive, then had an appointment and did my grocery shopping at the Co-Op over there for the second time. They have such an awesome selection of organic and local products, and the prices are super reasonable! Not to mention their bulk bins are to die for- 7 different kinds of lentils and way too many granolas to choose just one?? I might have found foodie heaven.

With my freshly re-stocked fridge, I made some bomb.com beef and bean (and veggie) chili to warm me up after being out in the cold. Now I have the pleasure of getting to Skype with my mom before diving into some reading and homework.

How did you start off your Monday?

Today I’m happy about: scoring a cheap paperback mystery novel at a cute used bookstore in Cambridge. Although I’m feeling a bit under the weather today, I am thankful I got in a good workout this morning to try and rid myself of any sickness that’s trying to infiltrate this body!

Happy Wednesday! Stay warm all you east-coasters!

Cambridge exploration

Today I’m happy about: receiving an adorable Thanksgiving card from my parents. They are so sweet and thoughtful and their words and little care package were perfect on this rainy day.

I also managed to get in my last-minute grocery shopping for Turkey Day- I’ll be cooking up some roasted butternut squash and brussel sprouts that I found at the Harvest Co-Op in Cambridge. Where I also managed to find super cheap oat bran and cereal that I had lost hope of buying in bulk!

After a great appointment with my therapist I stopped by the incredible Life Alive cafe and grabbed an Explorer salad to go. Holy yum!! That salad was a taste explosion in my mouth and I so did not want it to end. I’ll be having dreams about that salad.

Hope you’re off to a wonderful start for the short holiday break! Be safe if you or your loved ones are traveling!

The Hot and Healthy Bachelor… Grilled Wrap!

Today I’m happy about: trying a new-to-me cafe in Cambridge I’ve been wanting to visit for a while, Life Alive. I tried one of their hot grilled wraps with vegan cheese (since I’m lactose intolerant) and it was delicious! I can’t wait to return and try out many more of their grain-based bowls. This vegetarian eatery just made me feel healthier and happier the second I walked in. And with their incredible selection of fresh pressed juices, I KNOW I’ll be back.

I love eating meat, but am happy to eat vegetarian and vegan meals regularly as well. Any favorite vegetarian restaurants suggestions in the Boston area?
