Night at the Opera

Today I’m happy about: seeing Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann) at San Francisco Opera. I’ve heard great reviews about Matthew Polenzani and I’m curious as to how Natalie Dessay will get through the evening, considering she’s deciding to take some time off from opera indefinitely after her final performances of Massenet’s “Manon” in the fall in France. Though I have my own reservations about her voice especially after seeing Giulio Cesare with the Met Opera, I’m betting it’s still going to be an overall very exciting performance.

A brief review might be in order later this weekend. In any case, here’s some background about the show: http://sfopera.com/Season-Tickets/2012-2013-Season/The-Tales-of-Hoffmann.aspx.
